Bojoura (echte naam: Raina Cleuver van Melzen) is een Haagse zangeres van Bulgaarse afkomst die in 1967 wordt ontdekt door George Kooymans van de Golden Earring en jarenlang Nederland's populairste zangeres blijft met een breekbare en melancholiek stem en Engelstalige liedjes met een folky inslag.
De single "The Letter", een cover van het Box-Tops wordt in 1974 een redelijk success.

"Smokin' in the Boys Room" is a song originally recorded by Brownsville Station in 1973 on their album "Yeah!".
The song is about students hoping to avoid being caught violating their school's smoking ban by smoking cigarettes in the men's bathroom. The song was also translated to Hebrew and covered by the T-Slam. The song was also featured in the 1979 movie Rock 'n' Roll High School.

James Brown - Think b/w Something (1973)

"Think" is a rhythm and blues song written by Lowman Pauling and originally recorded by his group The "5" Royales. Released as a single on King Records in 1957.
In 1960 James Brown and The Famous Flames recorded a cover version of "Think". The song's instrumental backing featured a pronounced rhythmic attack that anticipated Brown's later funk music
Brown returned to "Think" again in 1973, when he released two different performances of the song as singles on the Polydor label, both of them backed with his cover of The Beatles' "Something". Both versions charted.

Marva Hodge (haar echte naam is Linda Melcherts) is een zangeres geboren op Aruba en kwam in de jaren 60 in Nederland terecht en is nu woonachtig in Den Haag. Samen met de groep Moody Sec scoorde ze in 1969 de hit "Let The Sunshine In". In 1970 kwam ze met de single "The Ghetto", geschreven door Ted Oberg de zanger van Livin´ Blues.

Rob Hoeke was een Nederlandse zanger-pianist-songwriter, die bekendheid verwierf vooral in de jaren 60 en begin jaren 70. Daarnaast door zijn deelname in de groepen The Rob Hoeke Rhythm & Blues Group en Rob Hoeke's Boogie Woogie Quartet. In de jaren 60 van de 20e eeuw nam hij een promotieplaat op met de Philips Philicorda, een elektronisch orgel. De formaties van Rob Hoeke kenmerkten zich door veeltallige wisselingen van de bezetting. Een van de weinige bluesartiesten van Nederlandse bodem die louter door zijn pianospel een groot publiek aan zich heeft weten te binden. Hoeke is door de jaren heen nooit van zijn handelsmerk afgeweken: een even stuwend als elementair boogie-ritme. De single "Jolita" werd vanaf juni 1968 voor f 1,- verkocht bij een pakje Jolita nylons. Wellicht de best verkochte single van de Rob Hoeke Groep.

"Cool Places" is a song recorded by American duo Sparks in collaboration with Go-Go's member Jane Wiedlin. The song was released as the lead single for Sparks’s 1983 album "In Outer Space". At the time Sparks were at their most popular in US. Jane Wiedlin also helped promote the album on tour and appeared at a few gigs to perform the duets. "Heat Of The Night" is the title of a song written by Canadian rock musician Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance and performed by Bryan Adams. The song became the only successful song from Adams' album "Into The Fire" in 1987.
Song was partly inspired by the film noir classic The Third Man, starring the actor-director Orson Welles. The darkness of the lyric was further influenced by a trip Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance took to Berlin in March 1986, before the wall came down.

"Too Busy Thinking About My Baby" is a Motown song written by Norman Whitfield, Barrett Strong, and Janie Bradford. The song was first recorded by The Temptations as a track on their 1966 album "Gettin' Ready". Eddie Kendricks sings lead on the recording, which was produced by Whitfield. Jimmy Ruffin also recorded a version with The Temptations providing background vocals in 1966.  In 1969, Motown artist Marvin Gaye recorded a cover version of "Too Busy Thinking About My Baby" as a follow-up single to his 1968 hit "I Heard It Through the Grapevine", another Whitfield/Strong composition. Whitfield produced Gaye's version as well, which featured background vocals by The Andantes. The song's lyrics feature the male narrator discussing how he has "no time to discuss weather" or "think about what money can buy", because when he thinks about his woman, "I ain't got time for nothing else".

Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman decided to fill up his newly acquired spare time by forming an all-star band, Willie and the Poor Boys. The group's roots lay in the series of high-profile 1983 ARMS Concerts (which raised money for multiple sclerosis research), which led to several of the tour's participants taking it a step further and laying down some tracks in the studio. Included in this stellar lineup were Wyman's Stones mates Ron Wood and Charlie Watts, as well as Jimmy Page, Mel Collins, Andy Fairweather Low, Kenny Jones, and Ringo Starr, among others, while Wyman also served as the album's producer. The resulting 1985 self-titled album was a pleasant enough set of 12 rock & roll/R&B standards including the single "These Arms Of Mine".

Gruppo Sportivo - Mexican Radio b/w Alice In Switzerland (1988)















Haagse popband met een aanstekelijk gevoel voor humor, die eind jaren zeventig op de eerste golven van de new wave een enorme populariteit behaalt. Balanceert in die periode knap tussen pastiche en persiflage. Creatief brein en anti-held Hans Vandenburg doekt de band in 1979 onverwacht op. Nadat zijn project Buddy Odor Stop nauwelijks beroering teweegbrengt, gaat hij weer verder met Gruppo Sportivo, echter zonder het oude succes te evenaren.
In 1987 formeert Hans Vandenburg een nieuwe groep: Ugly Head.
Als Ariola Ugly Head’s versie van het Wall Of Voodoo-nummer "Mexican Radio" op single wil uitbrengen wordt de groepsnaam terugveranderd in Gruppo Sportivo. Onder die naam treedt de band weer op in België en West Duitsland. "Mexican Radio" staat ook op de CD "Back To 19 Mistakes", samen met de eerste twee elpees.

"Goodbye Stranger" is a song by Supertramp, which first appeared on their 1979 album "Breakfast in America".
The main "body" of the song is backed by a simple Wurlitzer electric piano melody; the arrangement intensifies as the song progresses. This is eventually joined by intermittent electric guitar chords and bass. The song features several layers of vocals to complete the melody and has falsetto vocals during the chorus.

The Notting Hillbillies was a country music project formed by Mark Knopfler, who was then lead guitarist and singer of the Dire Straits, with Brendan Croker, Steve Phillips, and Knopfler's bandmate Guy Fletcher. Radio Java formed in the first half of the eighties. Comprising Tony Moore, Steve Price and Johnny Sequins, they started gigging all over London until they signed to Carrere Records. They recorded their debut album "Some Of The parts" at Abbey Road Studios in London. A Dutch DJ bought a copy of their second single 'Fool', (a beautiful orchestral ballad(, and started to play it on Dutch radio. The group flew over to promote the song on Dutch TV, but despite an appearance in the Dutch Tipparade (the 'bubbling under' singles chart), it didn't become a hit.

The S.O.S. Band - Tell Me If You Still Care (1983)















The S.O.S. Band is an American musical ensemble, founded in Atlanta, Georgia in 1977. Originally known as Santa Monica, the 'SOS' initialism in the band's name stands for Sounds of Success.
The band, fronted by Mary Davis, was initially famous for the hit "Take Your Time (Do It Right)" in 1980. In 1983, they joined forces with then new production team of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, who went on to craft a string of R&B hits for the group, including "Just Be Good to Me" and "Tell Me If You Still Care", from their fourth album "On The Rise" in 1983.
The Jam-Lewis-produced S.O.S. Band hits, are notable for popularizing the use of the Roland TR-808 drum machine (and its distinctive cowbell sound) in popular music.

Donald Fagen - New Frontier (1982)












Donald Fagen is an American musician and songwriter, best known as the co-founder, lead singer, and the principal songwriter of the rock band Steely Dan, along with partner Walter Becker.
After Steely Dan's breakup in 1981, Fagen released his critically acclaimed solo debut album, "The Nightfly", in October 1982. Its premiere single was "I.G.Y. (What a Beautiful World)". The follow-up single, "New Frontier" was aided by a popular MTV music video.
Donald Fagen's connective thread on the Nightfly is futurist nostalgia for the "New Frontier" as anticipated from the prosperous vantage point of late-'50s America. This track features the amazing bass work of Abe Laboriel. Transcription by Lionel Gibaudan.

Johnny Bristol was an American musician, most famous as a songwriter and record producer for the Motown label in the late 1960s and early 1970s. He was a native of Morganton, North Carolina. Performed in duo, Johnny & Jackey in the late 50´s.
In the mid 1960s, Motown had absorbed Tri-Phi and Bristol began working with Fuqua as a songwriter and producer.
Bristol left Motown in 1973 to join CBS as a producer. Johnny Bristol's main market was in Europe by the early 1980s.
A deal for Ariola/Hansa saw him score with club hits "Love No Longer Has a Hold on Me" and "Take Me Down".

"Rapture" is a single by the American new wave band Blondie. It was released in January 1981 and was the second and final song to be released from the band's 1980 top 10 album "Autoamerican".
"Rapture" is a combination of new wave, disco, jazz, pop, and rap music, with the rap section forming an extended coda. While it was not the first single featuring rapping to be commercially successful, it was the first to top the charts. Its lyrics include references to hip-hop pioneers Fab Five Freddy and Grandmaster Flash.
